2nd Annual Holiday Shopping Experience

For over 17 years ABC has been committed to making the holidays special for various families that we service. In years past we have had students send us a “wish list” and we have shopped, wrapped and delivered their gifts prior to Christmas Day.

In 2010 we wanted to do something different and decided to offer the students a shopping experience, it was a huge success. So on Saturday, December 17th we hosted our 2nd Annual Christmas Shopping Experience at our local Kmart on Telegraph and 8 Mile Rd.

Greeted by Santa and over 30 ABC employees and volunteers as they arrived at the store, the 150 elementary/middle school students who participated in this event had a fantastic time.

Keep the Students Warm

Every year as winter approaches ABC purchases over 1000 hats and set of gloves to donate to the elementary schools that we service. It is a total team effort with our staff volunteering to not only package the items but deliver them as well.

We ask the schools to keep the box in the office so when students are in need of a hat or a pair of gloves they have them on hand. It is just our way of doing our part to make sure that every child is prepared to brave the cold!

16th year of Donating Thanksgiving food baskets

2011 marked our 16th year donating Thanksgiving food baskets to those who would otherwise have gone without. This was by far our most successful event with great weather and over 60 volunteers coming out to assist in packaging and distributing the turkeys and side items (which consisted of vegetables, yams, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix, stuffing and a dessert.

With the support of our local Kmart (and their Kmart Kares Program) we were able to provide food for over 600 families this year.

First-ever DPS “Unsung Hero” Award given to ABC Student Transportation

At the first annual Detroit Public Schools Top Supplier meeting held December 15, 2011 at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Top Supplier Recognition Awards were given in five categories.

We are pleased to announce that ABC Student Transportation was given the most prestigious award that DPS has ever bestowed upon a vendor “The Unsung Hero Award” for our dedication, commitment and generosity to the students of Detroit.

We share this award with everyone who gives of their time to make what we do possible. Thanks again for everything and we look forward to doing it bigger and better in 2012.

100 New “Green” Buses Purchased by ABC

ABC Student Transportation’s number one priority is providing safe transportation for school children. This year ABC has made a very large investment to improve not only the equipment that the children ride on but also the environment in which their buses travel.

ABC has purchased 100 new buses which comply with the new 2010 EPA standards for diesel engines. The air coming out the tailpipe of a 2010 emission diesel bus is cleaner than the air coming into the engine.

Although the buses that were replaced were only five years old, ABC feels it is worth the investment to improve the environment of the communities in which they operate.

So the next time you see an ABC bus in your neighborhood, it may appear Yellow, but to the environment it is Green.

ABC 2nd Annual Back Pack Giveaway

In keeping with our spirit of giving this year we were able to donate over 600 hundred back packs complete with school supplies to Metro Detroit elementary students. It is just one of the ways we are able to say thank you to the community that we serve. Have a GREAT school year!
